This Season’s Events

  • Pick of the Season

    December 3, 2023

Holiday music, plucked just for you! Musicata is joined by harpsichordist Cynthia Hiebert and cellist Gordon Cleland, in a program of music featuring two delightful works by Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach: the buoyant motet Come, Arise! (Wachet Auf!), and his cozy little The Childhood of Christ (Die Kindheit Jesu). Other seasonal music from many traditions rounds out the program. The premiere of a new Christmas work by Bonnie Penfound promises to be another highlight.

    The program includes:

    J.C.F. Bach – Come, Arise!

J.C.F. Bach – The Childhood of Christ

    *Bonnie Penfound – Christmas Song

Various shorter seasonal works for choir, a capella, or with harpsichord/cello

  • The Joy of Blue – Music for Chamber Choir and Jazz Quartet

    March 3 2024

Pianist Chris Pruden, saxophonist Daniel Rubinoff, and bassist Andrew Downing return to Musicata, joined by drummer Mack Longpré in a concert featuring the electrifying Mass in Blue by Will Todd. Also featured will be Tierra de Ensueño by Canadian composer Javier Vasquez, and other music to chase winter away.

    The program includes:

Will Todd – Mass in Blue

Javier Vazquez - Tierra de Ensueño

  • Surround Sound – Music for strings and choir

    May 5, 2024

Musicata is joined by organist Stephen Boda and a professional string ensemble in Bach’s blazing choral masterpiece Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ Lay in the Bonds of Death). Haydn’s Te Deum in C, as well as music by Ola Gjeilo and Musicata’s Artistic Director Roger Bergs give this concert notes of joy, serenity, power and life. We were made for concerts like this.

    The program includes:

Johann Sebastian Bach – Cantata #4 – Christ Lag in Todesbanden

Josef Haydn – Te Deum in C

*Roger Bergs – Frostbites (Four settings of Winter Poems of Robert Frost)

Ola Gjeilo – Tundra and Ecce Novum
